Helping those in need...
"The King will reply, "I tell you, whenever you did this for one of the least important of these brothers of mine, you did it for me!" Matthew 25:40.
At Park Avenue UMC, we are committed to sharing the love and presence of Christ with people both near and far. Some of the ways in which we reach out in missions are:
R.A.F.T. (Reach A Friend Today)
The purpose of the R.A.F.T. ministry is to assist immediate church members and neighbors living in the Mooresville area by providing emergency assistance with the payment for utilities, rent/mortgage and medication.
Our building team constructs ramps at local homes in the community to provide safe and convenient accessibilty for those confined to wheelchairs or unable to use stairs. The building team's skills are also used to assist with small construction projects or to make minor home repairs.
The Father's Table
The Father's Table is a ministry by which we collect and distribute food to the hungry in our community. Donations of nonperishable food times are received on an ongoing basis. Those wishing to make a donation can bring their food items and place them in the hallway across from the youth classroom.
Annual Blood Drive
Each year, usually in May, the Missions Team sponsors a Red Cross blood drive at the Citizen's Center in Mooresville. We provide a comfort station, complete with snacks and drinks, for those donating blood.
UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief)
Samaritans International is a charitable non-profit corporation organized for the sole purpose of feeding and helping destitute children. It provides food and comfort to meet the basic needs of children at risk of malnutrition. Its feeding centers are distributed throughout the world. Park Avenue UMC supports this mission by pledging 10% of its annual budget towards Samaritans International
