Meet the Pastor
Park Avenue UMC welcomes our new Pastor, Rev. Melita Padilla!
Melita is a second-career pastor, having worked over twenty years as a self-employed accountant. Originally from Charlotte, she received her Master of Divinity Degree from Vanderbilt Divinity School in Nashville and a Master of Arts Degree in Philosophy from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She was commissioned a Local Pastor in the Tennessee Conference in 1997, a Deacon in 1998, and an ordained Elder in full connection in 2000. After serving five years as pastor to a rural church in Middle Tennessee, she transferred into the WNCC in 2002 due to her father’s deteriorating health. She was appointed as pastor to a three-point charge near Albemarle and most recently served for seven years as pastor to an inner city congregation in Charlotte. Pastor Melita loves music of almost any kind and is an avid reader, enjoying mysteries and historical fiction as well as current publications on theology, Christian ethics, and spiritual formation. Three of her favorite scriptures are Micah 6:8, Matthew 19:26, and Philippians 4:13, and two of her contemporary spiritual heroes are Henri Nouwen and Thomas Merton. She is single, has one daughter, Brandi Cartee, and shares her home with her loyal, four-legged companion, Gus.
